March 19, 2013
CHICAGO – UIC baseball player Tyler Detmer has been named the Horizon League Batter of the Week by CollegeSportsMadness.com for the period of March 11-17. The sophomore hit a team-best .467 (7-for-15) in five home games last week as the Flames defeated the University of Chicago on Tuesday and picked up two wins against league-foe Youngstown State over the weekend.
Detmer had a superb all-around week as he tallied five runs, two RBI, two doubles, two stolen bases and an on-base percentage of .529. The centerfielder leads the team with a .382 batting average and 21 hits which ranks fourth and fifth in the Horizon League, respectively. He is one of just five UIC players to appear in all 16 games for the Flames this season after seeing action in just nine contests in 2012.
The Flames will take the field next against Milwaukee for a three-game series set to begin on Friday at 4:05 p.m. CT. Both squads sit atop the conference standings with an identical league record of 2-1.
