Brian Evak Garners Horizon League Pitcher of the Week
March 12, 2012
INDIANAPOLIS – UIC freshman pitcher Brian Evak was named the Horizon League Pitcher of the Week, for the period of Mar. 5-11, the conference office announced on Monday afternoon. Evak picks up his first career weekly award and the Flames’ first league honor of the season.
Evak piloted the Flames to a 14-6 come from behind victory over the Big Ten-foe and city-rival Northwestern in game two of the series this past Friday. The right-hander entered the contest in the fourth inning and tossed five-scoreless frames, fanning six batters and allowing just four hits. Evak was credited with the win and now holds a team-high 2-1 record.
The Plainfield, Ill., native, ranks second in the Horizon League with a 2.81 ERA and owns a conference-low six runs allowed.
Evak is the first UIC player to earn the weekly award since then-freshman Collin Weyer collected the honor last year on May 9, 2011.
The Flames kick off the conference season this weekend at Wright State with a three-game swing set to begin on Friday at 5:30 p.m. CT.
