Baseball At Baylor For Weekend Series
March 12, 2010
WACO, Texas - The UIC baseball team will continue their non-conference campaign this weekend when they head to Baylor University to take on the Bears in a three-game set beginning Friday at 6:30 p.m. CT. The Flames (2-8, 0-0 Horizon League) and Bears (8-6, 0-0 Big XII Conference) have played each once before on March 1, 2008 when they met in the third annual QTI Baylor Classic. In that game, four unearned runs in Baylor's half of the seventh inning wiped out the Flames' two-run lead, and UIC's ninth-inning comeback attempt came up just short in a 5-4 loss to the 13th-ranked Bears. UIC's Steve McGuiggan had three hits and two RBI in that contest. The Apple Valley, Minn. native who was a freshman at the time, also belted the second pitch of the game out of the park for a solo home run. Chris Kovacevich surrendered four runs, though none were earned, and took the hard-luck loss for the Flames. The Frankfort, Ill. native is slated to be on the bump on Sunday afternoon for UIC.
