CHICAGO – UIC baseball player Alex Jurich has been named the Horizon League’s Batter of the Week as announced by the conference office on Monday afternoon.  The senior hit .417 and posted eight RBI in three games this past weekend, while belting his first career grand slam versus IPFW on Friday.

“Alex was a force at the plate this weekend,” said Head Coach Mike Dee.  “I am proud that he is getting recognition for his efforts.”

Jurich cleared the bases during the eighth inning in Friday’s 14-6 triumph against IPFW.  His four-run homer gave UIC the lead for good after being down 6-5.  The senior had plated a lone runner in the first frame and finished the contest with a career-high five RBI and three hits.   Jurich tallied three more RBI later in the evening against host-UALR, hitting 2-for-4 with one stolen base.

Jurich currently leads the Horizon League in RBI with 13 on the season.  He also ranks tied-for-fourth with 12 hits and 10th in batting average (.308).

The Flames next scheduled contest will be a home game against the University of Chicago on March 12.
