CHICAGO - The UIC baseball team will travel for a third consecutive weekend as the Flames prepare for a three-game series at #2 Vanderbilt with play beginning on Friday at 4 p.m. CT.  After the trio of games, UIC will have played six of its first nine contests against nationally-ranked opponents.  The Flames hold a 3-3 overall record, while Vanderbilt owns a 9-1 mark and carries a seven-game win streak into weekend action.

"We're excited for the challenge that Vanderbilt will bring," said head coach Mike Dee.  "I've been pleased with our effort and progress so far this season and I expect that to continue this weekend."

The Commodores have proven to be a tall task for opposing teams so far this season as they have outscored their opposition by a margin of 99-30.  As a team, Vanderbilt is hitting .331 with an on-base percentage of .449 as 10 Vandy players are averaging .300 or better from the plate.  The Dores are 8-1 at home this year with their one loss coming from Long Beach State, 13-9, in an eight-inning game.

The Flames picked up a series win at Santa Clara last weekend as redshirt senior Alex Grunenwald led the squad with three homers and seven RBI in those three games.  For his efforts, Grunenwald was named the Horizon League Batter of the Week, capturing his first career weekly accolade.  Sophomore right-hander Tomas Michelson earned Pitcher of the Week laurels on Feb. 18 for his 7.1 shutout innings against then-#24 Texas A&M to open the season.  Michelson will take the mound on Friday with freshman Jack Andersen and senior Joey Begel set to pitch on Saturday and Sunday, respectively.

Sunday's game time has been moved to 12 p.m. CT time with Saturday's first pitch scheduled for 2 p.m.  All the games can be viewed live on
