Changes to Baseball Schedule Sends UIC to Little Rock|
Feb. 26, 2014
CHICAGO – Cold weather sweeping across the Midwest this weekend forced changes to the UIC baseball schedule as the Flames will now travel to Little Rock, Ark., for a round-robin tournament with UALR, Missouri and IPFW. UIC was originally set to play a three-game series in Columbia, Mo., against the Tigers of the SEC, but sub-freezing temperatures has been forecasted for the entire weekend.
“We’re excited to play three different teams this weekend,” said Head Coach Mike Dee. “The more exposure we have to various types of clubs will prepare us that much more for the Horizon League season. We are making great progress in all areas and we look to continue that this weekend.”
Competition will begin on Friday at Noon CT with UIC battling IPFW and then host UA-Little Rock at 4 p.m. The Flames hold a 7-1 all-time series advantage against IPFW. UIC played a three-game set versus UALR in 2000, winning the first game, but dropped the final two. Action concludes on Saturday at 6 p.m., as the Flames tangle with Missouri for the seventh all-time gathering. Both teams have three wins apiece with UIC claiming a 5-1 victory in their most recent encounter on March 6, 2011.
Last weekend, the Flames took part in a three-game series at ninth-ranked Vanderbilt. The Commodores swept the trio of games, but UIC gave Vandy fits on Saturday. The Flames held VU scoreless for six-straight innings as sophomore Ian Lewandowski tossed one of the best games of his young career. The ‘Dores eventually plated two runs in the bottom of the seventh to capture a 2-0 win, but Lewandowski lasted 6.1 frames and allowed just five hits and two earned runs.
