Baseball Opens 2008 Season At Tulane
Feb. 22, 2008
New Orleans, La.- The six-time defending Horizon League champion UIC baseball team lifts the lid off of the 2008 season this Friday night when it begins a three-game set at Tulane.
First pitch for Opening Day is slated for 7 p.m. Central at the brand new Greer Field at Turchin Stadium on the Tulane University campus. Senior Grant Kohlstaedt, the only senior on this year's team, is scheduled to throw UIC's first pitch of 2008 when he faces Tulane Preseason All-American right-hander Shooter Hunt in the opener.
Seven-time Horizon League Coach of the Year Mike Dee and his troops will seek its seventh consecutive 35-plus win campaign in 2008. The Flames have captured six straight league regular season titles, three league tournament trophies in the last five years and a trio of NCAA Regional berths from 2003-2007.
The Flames will replace seven starting slots in the field and all three of its starting pitchers from last year's NCAA Long Beach Regional squad with what the coaching staff considers its most talented and athletic recruiting class to date.
