    Box Score

Indianapolis, Ind. - University of Illinois at Chicago sophomore pitcher Ryan Zink tossed a complete-game, four-hit shutout to lead the top-seeded Flames to the 4-0 victory over No. 2 Youngstown State and to a berth in the Horizon League Tournament Championship at Victory Field on Friday night.

Zink, who broke the single-season record for innings pitched in a season with 110.2, improves to 8-5 on the campaign. Dale Stone set the previous record of 104.2 innings pitched in 1976.

Youngstown State starter Eric Shaffer (4-8) was tagged with the loss, surrendering four runs (two earned), nine hits in 7.1 innings, while striking out two.

With the victory, UIC improves to 37-18-1 overall, while the Penguins drop to 29-26 on the campaign. Youngstown State will now take on UW-Milwaukee at 11:00 a.m. (CST) on Saturday morning, for the right to face the Flames in the Horizon League Tournament Championship at 3:00 p.m. (CST).

UIC senior second baseman Mike Bruszer went 1-for-3 with two RBI for the Flames, while teammates Bart Babineaux (RBI) and Mark Hallberg (run) each went 2-for-4 on the evening.

UIC struck first in the fourth inning, as the Flames loaded the bases with two outs, with Bruszer at the plate. Bruszer promptly roped a two-run single to centerfield, giving the Flames the 2-0 advantage over the Penguins.

The Flames tacked on a pair of insurance runs in the eighth inning, both unearned, as senior third baseman Bryan Russo reached base on a throwing error from YSU shortstop Charles Schultz to open the frame. Russo moved over to third on a single from Hallberg and scored on a Babineaux single, pushing the Flames ahead, 3-0.

Junior designated hitter Ted Rosinski pushed Hallberg and Babineaux into scoring position with a sacrifice bunt, bringing junior catcher Bryan Nolte to the plate. Nolte and Hallberg executed the safety suicide squeeze, to extend UIC's lead to 4-0.
