Indianapolis, Ind. - The University of Illinois at Chicago baseball squad rallied from a 3-0 deficit with five unanswered runs, as the No. 1 seeded Flames picked up the 5-4 victory over No. 4 Wright State at the second day of Horizon League Tournament action at Victory Field on Thursday evening.

Junior catcher Bryan Nolte led the way for the Flames at the plate, going 3-for-4 with an RBI, while teammate Shane Crowder went 2-for-3 with two RBI and two runs scored, including a two-run homer in the third inning.

With the victory, UIC improves to 36-18-1 overall, while the Raiders drop to 25-32 on the season. UIC will now take on Youngstown State at 7:00 p.m. (CST) on Friday night for the right to advance to the Horizon League Tournament finals. Wright State will take on Cleveland State at 11:00 a.m. (CST) on Friday morning.

UIC starter Zach Peterson (9-1) earned the victory, his eighth consecutive decision, for the Flames, allowing four runs and eight hits in 7.1 innings of work, while striking out five batters. Peterson has not lost since March 21st against Ohio State. Junior closer Jason Foster tossed 1.2 innings of scoreless relief to earn his sixth save of the season.

Wright State starter Ross Vagedes (4-3) was tagged with the loss, surrendering four runs and four hits in three innings, while fanning two batters.

Peterson got out of an early jam in the second, allowing just one unearned run after loading the bases with no outs. Wright State second baseman Travis Migliorini put the Raiders ahead, 1-0 with a RBI groundout.

Wright State tacked on two more runs in the third inning, as left fielder Justin Wilson (2-for-5, 2 runs) led off the frame with a triple off of the right field wall and scored on a RBI single from designated hitter Brendan Rubenstein (3-for-4, RBI, run), giving the Raiders the 2-0 lead.



Rubenstein moved over to second on a groundout from catcher Bryan Vickers and scored on a RBI single from third baseman Brian Shoup, pushing Wright State ahead, 3-0.

The Flames quickly answered in the bottom half of the frame, as Crowder connected for a two-run homer off of Vagedes, narrowing the Raiders' lead to 3-2. That homer was Crowder's sixth of the season and fourth in his last six games.

UIC took the lead in the fourth inning, as both junior left fielder Bart Babineaux (single) and junior designated hitter Ted Rosinski (walk) reached base to open the frame. Nolte stepped to the plate and roped a RBI double off of Wright State reliever Robert Barrett, scoring Babineaux and evening the score at 3-apiece.

Barrett issued a free pass to Russo to load the bases for senior second baseman Mike Bruszer. The Deerfield, Ill., native grounded into a 6-3 double play, scoring Rosinski and giving the Flames the 4-3 lead.

UIC tacked on an insurance run in the fifth inning, as Crowder scored from second on a groundout from Babineaux, pushing the Flames' ahead 5-3.

The Raiders' narrowed UIC's lead to one in the seventh, as both Wilson (single) and Rubenstein (walk) reached base to open frame and moved into scoring position on a sacrifice bunt from Vickers. Abusaleh stepped to the dish and plated Wilson with a sacrifice fly, bringing the Raiders to within 5-4.
