Chicago, Ill. - University of Illinois at Chicago junior designated hitter Justin Johnson and sophomore left fielder Ted Rosinski combined for four hits and seven RBI to propel the host Flames to the 8-5 Horizon League victory over Cleveland State at Les Miller Field on Friday evening.

Rosinski went 2-for-2 with three RBI and three runs scored, while Johnson was 2-for-2 at the plate with four RBI. The Flames were also the beneficiaries of four unearned runs as the Vikings committed six errors on the evening.

Game two of the scheduled doubleheader was called due to rain.

With the victory, UIC improves to 25-13 overall and 7-2 in Horizon League action, while the Vikings drop to 10-21 on the campaign and 7-5 in conference play.

Junior left-hander David Haehnel (5-2) picked up the complete-game victory for the Flames, allowing one run and six hits, while striking out five batters in seven innings of work. Cleveland State starter Dave Boyza (1-6) took the loss for the Vikings, giving up eight runs, four unearned, and five hits in 3.2 innings of work.

UIC opened up the scoring in the bottom of the first inning as Johnson plated Rosinski with a RBI single giving the Flames the 1-0 advantage.

Cleveland State answered in the top of the second inning, as Ben Smith roped a RBI single to left field, scoring designated hitter Gian Testa (3-for-4, RBI, run) and tying the game up at 1-apiece. That run ended Haehnel's scoreless streak at 22 innings.

UIC was able to put the game away in the bottom of the second as the Flames scored five runs with the benefit of only two hits. Johnson (double) and Rosinski (single) each notched two RBI during the frame, giving UIC the 6-1 lead.

Rosinski tacked on another RBI in the bottom of the fourth inning as he plated catcher Nelson Gord from second base with a single, giving the Flames the 7-1 advantage. Rosinski moved to second on a groundout by senior right fielder Mike Hughes and to third on a passed ball.



Johnson then recorded his fourth RBI of the afternoon, scoring Rosinski with a sacrifice fly, extending UIC's lead to 8-1.

Cleveland State third baseman Dom Erney led the Vikings offensively on Friday night, going 3-for-4 with two RBI.

Both teams will be back in action on Saturday afternoon for a doubleheader slated for 1:05 p.m.
