Chicago, Ill. - University of Illinois at Chicago junior outfielder J.P. Moran took an offering from IPFW reliever Doug McDonald in the small of the back with the bases loaded in the bottom of the tenth inning to lift the host Flames to the 5-4 extra-inning non-conference victory over the Mastodons at Les Miller Field on Sunday afternoon.

With the victory, UIC improves to 26-13 on the campaign and extends its home-winning streak to 23 games, while IPFW falls to 16-29-1 on the season.

Senior designated hitter Chuck Peters led the offensive charge for the host Flames as he tied a Les Miller Field record with two homers, both solo. Peters leads UIC and is second in the Horizon League with nine homers. Junior outfielder J.P. Carey collected four hits on the afternoon, while junior right fielder Mike Hughes opened up the game with a solo home run.

Sophomore left-hander David Haehnel picked up the victory for the Flames as he allowed two hits and a run, while striking out one in three innings of work to improve his record to 5-1 on the campaign. IPFW reliever Casey Rohan was tagged with the loss, allowing two runs and four hits in two innings.

Hughes led off the bottom of the tenth inning with a RBI double to left-center and advanced to third on a bunt single by Carey. Rohan intentionally walked Peters to load the bases with no outs, bringing in junior first baseman Chris Kerpan to bat.

IPFW head coach Billy Gernon brought in McDonald who fanned Kerpan and plunked Moran for the game-ending RBI.

Mastodons' third baseman Jacob Abramson went 3-for-4 with a RBI and a run scored to lead IPFW offensively.
