INDIANAPOLIS - The UIC baseball team picked up a Horizon League win against Butler on Friday afternoon at Bulldog Park by a final score of 14-9.  The Flames were led by junior third baseman Joe Betcher with back-to-back three-run home runs and eight total RBI.  From the mound, junior Joey Begel earned the win by throwing seven innings, allowing just six hits and two earned runs with five strikeouts.  With the victory, UIC improves to 13-18 on the season and 7-6 in conference.

UIC controlled things from the start and actually led 14-3 with two innings left to play.  Butler recorded the game's final six runs, including five in the eighth frame.  Alex Grunenwald hit a perfect 4-for-4 from the plate with three RBI, while Alex De LaRosa went 3-of-6 and Ryan Boss hit 2-of-4.

The Flames lit up the scoreboard first with a two runs in the second inning as Alex Jurich began the surge with a double off the left field wall.  Grunenwald then plated Alex Juirch with a deep triple to left center and Betcher drove in Grunenwald on a single through the left side, giving UIC an early 2-0 lead.

The Bulldogs knotted the score at 2-2 in the bottom half of the second inning with two runs on two hits as Marcos Calderon and Mike Hoscheit tallied the runs.

UIC retook the lead in the third frame with three scores as De LaRosa kicked things off with a single through the left side.  He was moved over to second on a sacrifice bunt by Cody Dykema and was eventually sent home on a double from Ryan Boss.  The next batter, Jon Ryan, reached base on a walk and Jurich juiced the bags on a hit pitch.  Just then Grunenwald slapped a single to right field, scoring Boss and moving the runners up one station.  Betcher recorded the final RBI of the inning off a fielder's choice that scored Ryan, handing the Flames a 5-2 edge.

After a scoreless fourth inning, UIC notched two more runs in the fifth on as Grunenwald scored the first run on a Ryan Shober single to left field.  Addison tallied the second score off a De LaRosa RBI-single which extended UIC's lead to 7-2.

Butler put up five scores in the bottom of the eighth inning off a two-run bomb by Jimmy Risi, his eighth on the season which leads all Horizon League players, and a three-RBI double by Austin Miller.  They would end up with on more score in the ninth, bringing the final count to 14-9.
