Baseball Edges IPFW, 2-1|

Chicago, Ill. - Five different University of Illinois at Chicago pitchers combined to hold IPFW to five hits and fanned 14 batters as the host Flames picked up the 2-1 non-conference victory over the Mastodons, extending its winning streak to nine games at Les Miller Field on Tuesday night.
Junior southpaw Ryan Gehring (6-2) picked up the victory for the Flames, allowing one run and four hits, while striking out four batters. Junior reliever David Haehnel tossed a scoreless ninth-inning, while striking out two, to pick up his third save of the season.
With the victory, UIC improves to 21-9 overall, while the Mastodons fall to 14-21 on the campaign.
Senior left fielder Mike Hughes led UIC offensively, going 3-for-4 with a RBI, while senior shortstop Jordan DeVoir chipped in two hits.
With the score tied at one in the bottom of the seventh inning, senior outfielders J.P. Moran and Shane Crowder each connected for one-out singles, putting runners at first and third for junior second baseman Bryan Russo.
Russo sent a grounder to IPFW third baseman Ty Tornincasa, who was unable to handle the ball, allowing Moran to score the winning run.
IPFW reliever Jason Horvath (2-7) took the loss for the Mastodons, allowing one unearned run and three hits in two innings of work.
UIC will be back in action on Friday afternoon, as they will travel north to square off with Horizon League rival, UW-Milwaukee at 3:00 p.m.
