Baseball Edges Western Illinois, 8-6 In Game One Of Twinbill

Chicago, Ill. - University of Illinois at Chicago senior shortstop Jordan DeVoir went 3-for-3 with four RBI to help propel the host Flames to the 8-6 non-conference victory over Western Illinois in Game One of their doubleheader on Saturday afternoon at Les Miller Field. With the victory, UIC improves to 13-9 overall, while the Leathernecks fall to 12-19 on the campaign. Junior second baseman Bryan Russo extended his hitting streak to 25 games with a leadoff homer, his fifth of the season, to begin the game. Junior lefthander Ryan Gehring (4-2) picked up the victory for the Flames, scattering eight hits and striking out seven batters in six innings of work. Western Illinois' starter Brian Daly (1-3) lasted only two innings, walking four batters and allowing five runs.
Western Illinois' second baseman Ryan Cougill led the Leathernecks offensively, going 2-for-4 with two RBI on the afternoon.
