    Box Score

CHICAGO- Jason Ganek drove in the game-winning run in the bottom of the ninth to send the UIC baseball team to a 3-2 walk-off win over Youngstown State at Les Miller Field on Saturday.

The Flames (10-13, 6-0 Horizon League) completed a three-game series sweep of the Penguins (4-20, 1-5 Horizon League) while notching their ninth win in the last 11 games.

The score was tied 2-2 in the bottom of ninth when Ty Rubio led off by hitting a deep fly to right off of reliever Anthony Munoz. Eric Hymel, who had just entered the game as a defensive replacement in right, had the ball bounce off of his glove for a two-base error.

Tony Altavilla executed a sacrifice bunt to move Rubio to third, and after an intentional walk was issued to Andy Leonard, Ganek hit a sharp liner that bounced off of Munoz, who recovered and threw to second to attempt an inning-ending double-play but could only get one out as Rubio crossed the plate with the game-winner.

Reliever Derrick Miramontes struck out the side in the top of the ninth to get the win and improve to 4-0.

Starter Mike Kool went eight strong innings, allowing just two runs and five hits.

Brett Schaefer and Jake Carr each drove in a run during the contest.

UIC returns to the diamond on Wednesday, Apr. 1 when the Flames host Bradley at Les Miller Field. First pitch is slated for 6:05 p.m.
