    Box Score

CHICAGO - The UIC baseball team rallied from as many as five runs down earlier in the afternoon to tie the game in the bottom of the ninth, but they fell short against the Creighton Bluejays in 11 innings, 13-10.

UIC (2-12) trailed by one, 10-9, with one out in the bottom of the ninth when John Rosinski came to the plate and hit a ball that split the left centerfield gap and he was able to leg out his first triple of the season. It marked only the second three-bagger of his career.

Rosinski was lifted for pinch runner Ty Rubio who would come in to score when the next batter, designated hitter, Ryan Meehan hit a sacrifice fly to centerfield. Both teams came up empty in the 10th inning.

In the 11th, Creighton (10-4) pushed across the go-ahead run when Robbie Knight singled off UIC's Michael Heesch down the right field line to score Ian Dike. The Jays would add two more tallies to take a three-run cushion into the bottom of the frame.

In the final stanza, Rubio was hit by a pitch with two away to give the Flames a baserunner; however, Meehan grounded out to end the contest.

Heesch took the loss and dropped to 1-3 on the season. He scattered eight hits and allowed five runs in 6.1 IP. The sophomore struck out a career-high nine batters in relief of starter Rafael Garcia.

Brandon Koenigstein picked up the win for Creighton. He did not allow a hit in two innings of relief and struck out a pair of UIC hitters.

On an afternoon where the ball was flying out of Les Miller Field, the two teams combined to hit 11 home runs. Steve McGuiggan (1), Chris Rutta (5), Nathan Orf (1) and Joe Betcher (1) all went deep for the Flames, while TJ Roemmich hit a pair of long balls for the Jays.

For Betcher, it was his first home run as a collegian.

UIC and Creighton will wrap up the brief two-game set on Saturday afternoon at 1:05 p.m.
