    Stats

WACO, Texas - The UIC baseball team was only able to scratch out three hits on Sunday afternoon as they dropped the finale of a three-game set against the Baylor Bears, 15-2 in seven innings.

UIC (2-11) trailed 4-0 in the top of fourth inning when they were able to push across a pair of runs with the help of two Baylor (11-6) errors.

Matt Serna scored the first run on a fielding error by the Bears' third baseman, Jake Miller. Nathan Orf advanced to third on the play and he was knocked in by freshman Joe Betcher who hit a sacrifice fly to rightfield. That was all the offense that the Flames could generate on the afternoon.

Baylor exploded for six runs in the bottom of the fourth to give themselves a more comfortable cushion. UIC starting pitcher Chris Kovacevich was lifted after surrendering a leadoff double to Steve DalPorto and three batters later, reliever Brad Riegler gave up a three-run homer to the Bears' designated hitter, Joey Hainsfurther.

Hainsfurther finished the game a perfect 3-for-3 from the plate with a double, the home run and four RBI.

Serna had two of UIC's three hits and clean-up hitter Chris Rutta had the other.

After beginning the season with 13 games away from Chicago, the Flames will host the Creighton Bluejays in Opening Day at Les Miller Field on Friday afternoon at 4:05 p.m. The three-game set will continue on Saturday at 1:05 p.m. and wrap up on Sunday at the same time.
