Fayetteville, Ark. - The University of Illinois at Chicago baseball team continues to battle its opponents tough, but fell short on Friday afternoon, as Arkansas edged the Flames, 4-3, for the non-conference victory at Baum Stadium at George Cole Field.

Senior outfielder J.P. Moran led UIC offensively, going 3-for-4, while junior second baseman Bryan Russo (2-for-5, 2 runs) and senior right fielder Mike Hughes connected for back-to-back solo homers in the top of the third inning. Senior shortstop Jordan DeVoir also chipped in two hits and a RBI for the Flames.

"We didn't do a good job offensively today," UIC Assistant Coach Sean McDermott said. "We had our opportunities, but we gave too many at bats away."

With the victory, Arkansas improves to 12-5 on the campaign, while the Flames fall to 6-4 overall.

Junior lefthander David Haehnel (1-1) took the loss for the Flames, allowing four runs and 13 hits, in seven innings of work, while striking out five batters.

Arkansas' Jay Sawatski (2-1) earned the victory for the Razorbacks in relief, throwing four innings of scoreless relief, while allowing three hits. Caton Hall held the Flames scoreless in the top of the ninth inning to pick up his first save of the season.

With the score tied at 3-apiece in the bottom of the fifth, Arkansas' Blake Parker advanced to second on a fly-out by Scott Hode and scored on a RBI single from Haas Pratt (2 RBI) for the game-winning hit.

Both teams will be back in action on Saturday afternoon, with the first pitch slated for 12:05 p.m.
