BOWLING GREEN, Ky.- Three consecutive three-run innings hurt the UIC baseball team in a 14-4 loss at No. 23 Western Kentucky at Nick Denes Field on Friday afternoon.

Chris Rutta went 2-for-2 with a two-run homer, and Jason Ganek also went yard for the Flames (1-7).

Monte Ketchum drove in three runs during a 3-for-4 day for the Hilltoppers (7-2).

UIC scored first when Ganek homered to lead off the second inning, but Western Kentucky tallied three in the bottom half of the inning. Two came following a Kes Carter double with two out, just three batters after a Flames fielding error.

The Flames tied the game in the top of the third when Rutta hit a two-out, two-run blast to left on the first pitch he saw from starter Matt Ridings.

But Western Kentucky put a three-spot on the board for the second straight frame. Four consecutive Hilltopper batters reached safely by way of singles to produce a run, and two sacrifices drove in runs.

Western Kentucky then completed a trifecta of three-run innings on one swing in the fourth. Ketchum hit a three-run homer off of starter Chris Kovacevich to put the Hilltoppers ahead 9-3.

Ryan Huck hit a two-run double in the fifth to add to the hosts' lead. Harry Kammholz hit an RBI single in the top of the sixth, but that's the last of the offensive production that UIC could muster while Western Kentucky scored two more in the bottom half of that same inning to complete a stretch of five straight innings with two or more runs.

Rookie Tim Suminski allowed three runs in four innings of relief.
