Port St. Lucie, Fla. - The bats continued to blaze for the University of Illinois at Chicago baseball team as they completed the series sweep over Michigan with a 13-1 non-conference victory over the Wolverines at the New York Mets spring training facility on Sunday afternoon.

"This is the first game that I thought that we put everything together," UIC Head Coach Mike Dee said. "We swung the bats really well today and I thought our intensity really showed this weekend."

Senior right fielder Mike Hughes led the way for the Flames, going 3-for-6 with six RBI, including a grand slam home run in the top of the fourth inning. Juniors Bryan Russo (3 RBI) and Justin Johnson (2 doubles, 2 RBI) also notched three hits on the afternoon.

With the victory, UIC improves to 5-1 on the campaign, while the Wolverines remain winless at 0-5.

Junior Ryan Gehring picked up the victory for the Flames, allowing one run, five hits and striking out five batters in seven innings of work.

UIC will be back in action on Friday afternoon, as they will travel to Missouri to take on Saint Louis at 2:00 p.m. (CST).
