    Box Score

AUSTIN, Texas - Senior Adam Worthington gave up just one run in 7.2 innings against the nation's fourth-ranked team during his first career start, but that was all Texas needed as the UIC baseball team was edged by the Longhorns, 1-0, in the series finale at UFCU Disch-Falk Field on Sunday.

The Flames (0-4) mustered just three hits offensively on the afternoon. Brandon Workman struck out seven in seven innings to get the win for Texas (4-0).

Worthington, the 2008 Horizon League Relief Pitcher of the Year and UIC's active career saves leader, made his debut as a starter a memorable one. The Gurnee, Ill. native held the explosive Texas offense at bay by allowing just six hits and a single tally in the sixth before exiting with two outs in the eighth.

Texas scored the game's lone run when Brandon Belt hit a one-out RBI double in the sixth that plated Brandon Loy, who was on second after hitting a single and advancing a base on a balk call.

The Longhorns had runners on the corners with one away in that same frame when Worthington induced an inning-ending double play to elude further damage.

Jason Ganek led off the eighth with a single and would eventually get to third after Rafael Garcia's sacrifice bunt and Ryan Meehan's groundout. After Steven Humble walked to put runners at the corners, Steve McGuiggan hit into a fielder's choice that halted the threat.

UIC had the tying run on base with two outs in the top of the ninth after John Rosinski singled to right off of Austin Wood, but Brett Schaefer grounded out to third to end the game.
