COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The UIC baseball team opened its season at No. 5 Texas A&M as the Aggies unveiled their newly-renovated Olsen Field at Blue Bell Park, a $24 million complex that welcomed over 5,300 fans on Friday night.  The Flames suffered a 10-0 loss in a game that was postponed in the bottom of the sixth inning and resumed on Saturday afternoon due to inclement weather.

The Flames managed two hits against the Aggies All-American pitcher Michael Wacha as redshirt junior Alex De LaRosa singled in the fourth and sophomore Alex Lee singled in the eighth.  Credited with the loss was UIC hurler Joey Begel who lasted 5.1 innings, yielding 10 hits and seven earned runs while fanning five A&M batters.

UIC’s best opportunity for some runs came in the fourth inning as Ryan Shober and De LaRosa reached second and third, respectively after a sac bunt by teammate Joe Betcher.  However those two were left stranded as Dom D’Agata and Ryan Boss each popped out.  The Flames also left two on base in the eighth inning in Shober and Betcher.

Game two of the three-game series was played immediately following game one.
