    2009 ALL-HORIZON LEAGUE SECOND TEAM

    2009:
    All-Horizon League Second Team selection...appeared in 50 games, making 44 starts...UIC's starting first baseman in 41 games ...hit .318 (49-for-154) on the season...tied for the team lead in home runs with six blasts...led team in on-base percentage at .480...took a team-leading 35 walks...was plunked a team-high 14 times, good for ninth all-time in a UIC season...was 9-for-10 in stolen bases, the second best total of steals on the team...team's top hitter against Horizon League pitching at .368 (32-for-87)...team's leadoff hitter in the last 15 games of the regular season...homered to lead off three games.

    2008: Appeared in 28 games, starting 16...started nine of UIC's last 11 games, including every contest in the Horizon League Championship and the first two games of the NCAA College Station Regional...batted .269...belted four homers and drove in 16 runs...capped a five-run first inning with a two-run homer during a 2-for-2, two-walk, four-RBI performance in the league championship game against Milwaukee on May 25...hit first Division I home run against IIT on Mar. 26...hit a pair of homers during a 3-for-4, four-RBI day in the opener of a doubleheader against Trinity International on Apr. 26.

    Prior to UIC: Played two years for Vernon College in Vernon, Texas...named Vernon's Hitter of the Year...hit .342 with 22 RBI as a senior...also stole 18 bases, scored 31 runs and hit 10 doubles...hit .310 and scored 19 runs with 12 RBI as a freshman at Vernon...swiped eight bases as a rookie...earned North Texas League All-Academic Team accolades.

    Prep/Personal:
    Two-year letterwinner as a third baseman for Hersey...led the Huskies to a pair of Mid-Suburban League East titles (2004, 2005) and a regional championship (2004)...led Huskies with a .362 average as a senior...earned team Most Valuable Player honors...also lettered two years on the Hersey football team...garnered All-Mid-Suburban East recognition as a linebacker...born February 17, 1987...son of Jon and Joan Harwell...majoring in business management.
