More than 100 little leaguers spent the day at Curtis Granderson Stadium

2002 Highlights: Drafted by the Detroit Tigers in the third round (80th overall)...named the Horizon League Player of the Year...selected to the Horizon League All-Tournament team...finished the season with the second-best batting average in the nation at .483...set the UIC single-season records in batting average (.483), hits (100) and runs (78)...set UIC career-record with 178 runs scored...led UIC in home runs (9), doubles (23), triples (4), RBI (45), total bases (158), slugging percentage (.763), walks (32), on-base percentage (.562) and stolen bases (17)...was 3-for-3 with two stolen bases in a 9-3 victory over Tennessee-Martin on March 9th...went 3-for-4 with four RBI and four runs scored in a 12-0 victory over Drexel on March 18th...recorded a hit in 49 of 55 contests...went 4-for-4 with two runs and an RBI in a 11-6 victory over Horizon League Tournament champion, UW-Milwaukee on May 17th...tallied 29 multiple-hit outings during the year, including 10 with three hits and six with four hits...went 3-for-5 with a home run, four runs scored and three RBI in a 14-1 win over the University of Chicago.

2001 Highlights: As a sophomore, played in all 60 games while starting in the outfield in 59...compiled a .304 batting average with 42 RBI and a team-high 51 runs scored, which matches the third highest total in single season history...led the Flames as well as the MCC with nine home runs and 30 walks...also tallied eight doubles and a league-best five triples...snagged eight bases in 16 attempts...his seven hit-by-pitches were second most on the team...batted .357 in MCC action with 24 runs scored and 14 RBI...compiled a .361 batting average with runners on base and a .357 average with runners in scoring position...tallied 17 multiple-hit outings during the year, including one with three hits and two with four hits...his 14 multiple-RBI games led the team...hit for the cycle against Detroit on May 11 and finished 4-for-5 at the plate with four RBI and four runs scored...had four hits, three runs scored and a pair of RBI in the Flames' 16-10 win over Cleveland State on April 7.

2000 Highlights: Had a terrific rookie season and was the only UIC player to start in all 58 games...compiled a .271 overall batting average and hit .262 in conference action and for his efforts was named to the MCC's All-Newcomer 210 at-bats, he tallied 51 runs scored, third most in UIC single-season history, 57 hits and 38 RBI...led the Flames with seven home runs while also roping 10 doubles...topped the team with 45 walks, which was third-most in a single year, while totaling 15 multiple-hit outings, including four with three or more hits...stole 12 bases in 22 attempts...dropped the game-winning hit down the right field line to score Sean McNichols in UIC's 1-0 victory over Butler on April 22...compiled a .308 batting average with six runs scored and a pair of RBI in the Flames' three-game sweep at Iowa...was solid in the field all season long as he compiled a .979 fielding percentage.

Prep/Personal: Finished his career off at Thornton Fractional South with an outstanding senior season during which he batted .427 with 44 hits, 47 RBI and 38 runs scored...led the Rebels with 30 walks, four hit-by-pitches and an on-base percentage of .557...extra-base hits included seven doubles, two triples and six home runs...swiped seven bases in 13 accolades included SICA Central All-Conference, Illinois Times, Daily Southtown and Star Newspaper All-Area recognition...was also voted to the IHSCA All-Area Team while receiving Chicago Tribune All-State Honorable a junior, he hit .326 at the plate with 32 runs, 29 hits and 22 RBI...was again the team-leader for walks (28), hit-by-pitches (four) and on-base percentage (.500)...hustled out eight doubles and one triple while belting four home runs...had five stolen bases in nine attempts...helped the Rebels to a 25-9 overall record and an SICA Central Conference championship...earned all-conference and all-area honorable mention following the year...also lettered three seasons on the basketball team and one year as a cross country runner...born March 16, 1981...son of Curtis and Mary Granderson...double majoring in business marketing and business administration.
