Fourth-year head coach Howard Moore and the UIC men's basketball team has the city of Chicago and the college basketball community on watch after a stellar 2012-13 season. The Flames mounted the 12th best turnaround in the country, winning 10 more games than the previous year, to finish with a Chicago's best 18-16 record. Moore and company also claimed home court advantage with a record of 12-4 when playing at the UIC Pavilion last season, which ties for the fifth-highest win total in program history.
In 2013-14, returning starters Hayden Humes and Marc Brown will look to guide a healthy mix of veterans and newcomers. Transfers Kelsey Barlow (Purdue) and Jordan Harks (Central Arkansas) have proven their ability to play at the highest level and should provide quality experience for the Flames. UIC will be tested early and often throughout the non-conference season with tilts against Drake, Northwestern, SMU, Colorado State and Illinois. The Flames kick off Horizon League play at defending champion Valparaiso on Jan. 2.
