About the Team

The UIC Dancing Flames, also referred to as the UIC Dance Team (UICDT) is the official dance team of the University of Illinois at Chicago. As a member of the Dancing Flames, you automatically become a part of a rich tradition and legacy that started over 20 years ago. The team has acquired two UDA national titles, in 1996 and in 2007 as well as numerous top 10 finishes in both UDA & NDA Nationals competitions.

Responsibilities & Conduct

The Dancing Flames have been avid supporters of UIC men's basketball since the team's inception; that is the main focus of the season. The dance team may perform at Women's basketball games, Men's soccer and Women's Volleyball games throughout the year. The team will also attend events on campus and throughout the Chicagoland area performing and volunteering for our community.

As a dance team member you are a representative not only of the athletic teams you support at this University, but also the entire State of Illinois. The UIC dancers are some of the most visible ambassadors UIC has and they are expected to conduct themselves accordingly in and out of uniform.

Nationals Competition

No other college dance team in the state of Illinois has the record of achievement that the Dancing Flames have. Most recently, the team placed 4th place in hip hop at the NDA Nationals in Daytona Beach, Florida. Additional auditions will be held for potential placement on our Nationals team. If chosen to one of our Nationals routines, you will be expected to attend additional practices and complete additional fundraising.

Today this proud tradition is continued by dedicated student-athletes who devote 15-20 hours every week to practices, games, special appearances, dance camps and competitions. The team practices Monday - Thursday during the evenings, with occasional weekend practices.

Like student-athletes in other Flames sports programs, members of the Spirit Squads, comprised of the Cheer Team, Dance Team, and Band, must maintain high academic standards and carry a full credit load in order to participate. You must be a full time student, as well as maintain a 2.0 GPA.

Because of these responsibilities we are looking for skilled and talented athletes, as well as well-rounded students who embrace the ability to be coached, as well as find a healthy balance between athletics, school, family and friends. Our team members come from all over the state and have very diverse dance backgrounds. The one thing they have in common is their dedication and commitment to this program. They believe that as they improve as individuals, their team improves as well, and the rewards from having this experience cannot be measured. Imagine the excitement that comes with being a part of the largest university in Chicago, performing at locally and nationally televised games, competing against some of the top dance programs in the nation, and having one of THE BEST collegiate dance team in the state of Illinois!
