NORMAL, Ill. – The UIC baseball team resumed its three-game series against Illinois State Saturday, as the Flames looked to win their sixth straight game overall. After an offensive outburst in the series opener Friday, the Flames picked right back up where they left off, toppling the Redbirds for the second straight day, winning by a final score of 11-2.
- Charlie Szykowny launched his second home run of the series to open the scoring in the top of the first, putting UIC ahead 2-0.
- In the second inning, Cole Conn tacked on another run to the Flames' lead with a sacrifice fly. Ryan Nagelbach added his second home run of the series in the top of the third, a three-run blast to double the UIC lead to 6-0.
- Cole Conn added another pair of RBI in the top of the fourth inning, launching his sixth home run of the year to right-center field to extend the lead to 8-0. Breck Nowik drove in his 20th run of the season to close out the top of the fourth inning, leaving the Redbirds with a 9-0 deficit.
- Starting pitcher Kade Lancour went six strong innings for the Flames, surrendering just two runs on four hits, walking only one and striking out two.
- Nagelbach continued his hot hitting in the seventh inning, slugging yet another home run to right field, this time a solo shot to extend the advantage to 10-2. Rayth Petersen added the final run of the game in the eighth on a sacrifice fly, and the combination of Zak Gould and Matt Zahora closed out the final three innings scoreless to give the Flames their sixth straight victory by an 11-2 final score.
