Offense Powers Baseball to 10-Run Victory Over Illinois State

Nagelbach Drives in Five in Series-Opening Win

NORMAL, Ill. – The UIC baseball team opened up a three-game series on the road Friday, as it took on Illinois State in its final road Missouri Valley Conference series of the season. After jumping out to an early lead, the Flames took the series opener by a final score of 10-0.
  • Sending 10 batters to the plate in the first inning, Carson Roberts opened the scoring for UIC, plating leadoff hitter Cole Conn on an RBI groundout. Ryan Nagelbach would follow that up with a grand slam to right field, putting the Flames ahead 5-0 before the Redbirds picked up a bat.
  • Roberts picked up right where he left off in the top of the second inning, driving home two more runs with a double down the right field line, giving UIC a 7-0 lead.

  • Charlie Szykowny crushed his team-leading 15th home run of the season to right center, extending the Flames' lead to 9-0.

  • Nagelbach notched his second hit of the game in the top of the sixth, driving in his fifth run of the game to extend the lead to 10-0.
  • Brandon Bak was terrific on the mound for UIC, going the full seven innings and earning the win, scattering four hits and striking out one.
The Flames and Redbirds will continue their three-game series on Saturday, with first pitch from Duffy Bass Field set for 1:00 p.m. CT. There will be no streaming available for Saturday or Sunday's games, but live stats are available via UICFlames.com.
