Baseball Drops Series Finale Against Bradley

Flames Take The Series Victory Over Braves

CHICAGO – The UIC baseball team closed out its three-game series against Bradley Sunday, as the two met for an afternoon matinee at Curtis Granderson Stadium. Amongst the raindrops, the Flames put their four-game win streak on the line, looking for the series sweep.
  • The Braves wasted no time getting on the board on Sunday afternoon, as they opened the scoring for the third time in the series. Bradley came out swinging in the very first inning, as lead-off hitter Ryan Vogel took the first pitch of the game over the left field wall to put his team ahead 1-0. The Braves would go on to add five more to their tally in the first, taking a 6-0 lead before the Flames picked up a bat. The flurry of runs in the first chased Flames starter Jeff Zack after just two-thirds of an inning.
  • A Cole Conn sacrifice fly in the home half of the first inning brought UIC back within five at 6-1. After the Braves answered with a run of their own in the top of the second, the Flames notched a pair of runs on RBI singles from Zane Zielinski and Carson Roberts, cutting the deficit to 7-3. The Braves added another run on a Vogel RBI single to re-establish a five-run lead at 8-3 heading to the bottom of the third.
  • Rayth Petersen brought UIC back within four in the bottom of the fourth inning with an RBI single to right field, his 28th RBI of the year. Two more runs would cross the plate in the fourth bringing the score to 8-6, as Max Farfan was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, and Bobby Grimes drew a bases-loaded walk the very next hitter.
  • Following a pair of runs plated by the Braves in the top of the sixth, the Flames came back once again and reduced the deficit, tacking on two of their own on a two-RBI single from Petersen to narrow the gap to 10-8 heading to the eighth inning.
  • Rain continued to fall for the majority of the afternoon, eventually becoming heavy enough to force a short eight minute rain delay in the bottom of the eighth inning.
  • The Flames were unable to put a run across in the final two frames, and dropped the series finale by a final score of 10-8.
The Flames will be back in action on Tuesday, as they continue their eight-game home-stand by hosting Northwestern. First pitch from Granderson Stadium is set for 6:00 p.m., and the game can be seen live on ESPN+ and heard live on the Flames Network free of charge.
