VALPARAISO, Ind. – The UIC baseball team closed out its series against Valparaiso Sunday, as the Flames looked to salvage a win in the three-game set. For the second consecutive day, the weather was a huge factor with temperatures hovering in the low forties and wind chill in the high thirties.
- The Flames wasted no time jumping ahead Sunday, as they posted six runs in the second inning, highlighted by a Carson Roberts 3-run home run and a Charlie Szykowny two-RBI double.
- UIC was not done, however, as the Flames plated eight more runs in the third inning, highlighted by two more RBI from Szykowny on a one out triple, a two-out, two-run home run from Max Farfan, his second of the year, and RBI singles from Rayth Petersen and Ryan Nagelbach.
- The offensive outburst continued, as the Flames tallied two more in the fourth, and five more runs in the fifth, behind the strength of a two-RBI triple from Petersen in the fifth. UIC used all of that offense to head into the sixth with a 21-1 advantage.
- The Beacons would answer with six straight runs, but it would not be enough to extend the game, as the Flames would go on to win 21-7 in a 7-inning run-rule.
The Flames will close out their four-game road trip on Tuesday, as they travel to Northern Illinois to close the season series against the Huskies. First pitch from DeKalb, Ill. is set for 3:00 p.m. CT Tuesday afternoon. Catch all of the action with Jonathan Hood and AJ Schraffenberger on the Flames Network.
