CHICAGO – The UIC softball team shut out Evansville Saturday afternoon at Flames Field, 3-0 behind seven collective hits and a complete game shut-out from senior Christina Toniolo.
COMMENT FROM HEAD COACH LYNN CURYLO
"Very excited about the outcome today because we had production from the line-up," UIC head coach Lynn Curylo said. "Christina did a good job in the circle by keeping Evansville off balance. We had great production from Emma Crowley not only at the plate, I believe she was on base all three times, but she also threw out two runners."
COMMENT FROM SENIOR CHRISTINA TONIOLO
"I want to give a huge shoutout to my catcher Emma Crowley, I think she called a fantastic game, and we were working together the whole time," Senior Christina Toniolo said. "We were on the same page, and I couldn't be more proud of her."
COMMENT FROM SOPHOMORE LARISSA ORTIZ
"We had confidence, Tina (Christina) was in the circle, and she was owning the batters," Ortiz said. "We had our defense behind her and had her back. Then we were up at the plate, we did our jobs, we were keeping things simple, and we got a victory out of it."

Ortiz tallied three singles on the day, leading the Flames in hits. This was her first multi-hit game in her UIC career.
-
To open the bottom of the fifth, sophomore Hailey Cowing crushed a ball to right center to clear the fence for her third home run of the season.
-
Cowing's homerun was followed by an RBI double from junior Emma Crowley to score Ortiz for the Flames' third run of the game.
-
Toniolo held the Aces to five hits, striking out three and walking two in seven innings pitched.
THE MILESTONES

This is Toniolo's fourth complete game of the season and her second win going the distance for the Flames. She pitched the whole game in UIC's win against Loyola, 3-2 back on Apr. 12.

Hitting her third homerun in the season, Cowing is now the sole leader in homeruns for UIC. She also surpassed junior Anna Walker as the leader in RBIs (11).

Now with three hits in the series, Cran has the second-best batting average on the team at .239.
