Baseball Drops Thrilling Contest Saturday at Valparaiso

Flames Lose Second Straight Game on the Road

VALPARAISO, Ind. – The UIC baseball team continued its series against Valparaiso on a cold and blustery day in northwest Indiana Saturday, as the Flames looked to even the three-game series.
  • After a Charlie Szykowny one-out triple, his first of the season, Carson Roberts tapped out to first base to bring in the game's first run. Just two pitches later, Breck Nowik launched his fourth home run of the season, a solo shot to right center field to put UIC ahead 2-0.
  • Valparaiso answered with a pair of runs of their own in the second inning, tying the game with a Matt Olive two-run home run.
  • UIC took the lead for a second time in the top of the third, as Sean Dee's first home run of the year gave the Flames a 3-2 advantage.
  • The Beacons would tie the game yet again in the fourth inning with a Jake Skrine solo home run to straightaway center field.
  • Zane Zielinski re-gained the lead for a third time for the Flames, as his RBI single put UIC ahead 4-3.
  • Brady Nowicki helped the Beacons answer right away in the bottom of the sixth, as his own RBI single tied the game again at 4-4.
  • Nowicki would drive in the eventual winning run in the eighth inning in his next at-bat, putting the Flames away by a final score of 5-4.
Game three of the series is set for a 1:00 p.m. CT first pitch Sunday afternoon from Valparaiso. Fans can listen to the game on the Flames Network, with the pre-game show beginning at 12:45 pm.
