Baseball Plates Seven Runs in Series Finale Loss at Alabama

Flames Battle Until the End Against #20 Alabama Sunday

TUSCALOOSA, ALA. – The UIC baseball team finished its three-game series against Alabama Sunday, and plated the most runs allowed by the Crimson Tide this season, but fell by a final score of 9-7 in the series finale.

  • The Flames took their first lead of the series to open the game Sunday, plating a run on an AJ Henkle first inning single, his team-leading seventh RBI of the year.
  • Max Farfan doubled the UIC advantage in the second inning, crossing the plate as Zane Zielinski grounded into a double play.
  • The Crimson Tide responded with three consecutive home runs in the home halves of the second and third innings, including their second grand slam of the series.
  • Carson Roberts belted his first home run of the season in the fourth inning, a three-run blast to right field that pulled the Flames within one run at 7-6.
  • A pair of Alabama RBI singles in the fourth re-earned a three-run advantage for the Crimson Tide, which was trimmed to just two with a Charlie Szykowny RBI single in the top of the eighth inning.
  • The Alabama bullpen was able to shut the door in the ninth inning, earning the series sweep with a 9-7 victory.

The Flames will return to the Windy City Sunday night and prepare to open the home schedule this week. UIC will host Northwestern at Curtis Granderson Stadium Tuesday night, with first pitch scheduled for 4:00 p.m. CT.
