Flames Softball Drops First Game at the Governors Classic Friday

UIC tallied four hits against Austin Peay

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – The UIC softball team (0-18) opened the Governors Classic Friday afternoon against Austin Peay (8-7), falling to the Governors 7-1.
  • After the Governors scored a run in the bottom of the second to take a 1-0 lead, the Flames tied it up in the top of the third through the strong baserunning of junior Anna Walker. After being walked, Walker moved to second on a pass ball and scored on an error from the Governors second baseman.
  • UIC had four hits in the game; freshman Gianna Richy hit a double in the fourth inning, while Walker, redshirt senior Maica Ingles and senior Jordyn Cebedo recorded singles for the Flames.
  • Senior Christina Toniolo pitched 4.1 innings in the circle for UIC. She struck out two and walked one in her outing.
  • Senior Carlee Jo Clark came in relief for Toniolo and finished the game for UIC in the circle. She pitched 1.2 innings only allowing two hits
UP NEXT
The Flames will play two games Saturday at Cathi Manyard Park. UIC starts the day taking on Dayton (6-9), with first pitch scheduled for 10 a.m. CT. The Flames wrap up Saturday competition by facing Austin Peay, with the contest scheduled for a 5:30 p.m. CT start.
