FRESNO CALIF – The UIC softball team (0-5) finished its second day of the Fresno State Kickoff Classic falling to Iowa State (3-3), 7-0 and Seattle (4-2), 10-2 Friday afternoon.
IOWA STATE
- The first few innings were an offensive stalemate. The Flames had four hits but left five runners on base going into the bottom of the third inning.
- In her second start of the Kickoff Classic, senior Christina Toniolo started off with two strong innings, allowing no runs and striking out two.
- Iowa State got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the third after an RBI single from Angelina Allen. They expanded their lead the very next inning with two more runs in the bottom of the fourth resulting in Toniolo being pulled after the inning was over. Iowa State led, 3-0 entering the fifth.
- Sophomore Grace Fleming started the top of the fifth inning with her second hit of the game but was doubled off on a Maica Ingles line out to shortstop. Fleming (2-4) and junior Anna Walker (2-3) were the only two Flames with a multi-hit game.
- Iowa secured their win after tacking on four more runs in the bottom of the inning with a bases clearing triple from Tiana Poole, followed by a double from the pinch-hitting Sarah Tyree.
SEATTLE
- Seattle led early in the bottom of the first when Tai Wilson scored Olivia Viggiano on a triple. In the very next at-bat, Madison Kahwaty scored Wilson on a sac-fly. The RedHawks expanded their lead further in the bottom of the fourth with five additional runs, leading 7-0 entering the middle of the game. Six of those runs were unearned due to four errors made by the Flames.
- Senior Carlee Jo Clark made her season debut starting in the circle for the Flames. She completed five innings facing 25 batters only walking two and one run being earned.
- In the top of the six inning the Flames got on the board behind the bat of freshman Jazmyn Casas (two-for-three, two RBIs). Runners in scoring position, Casas hit a double to right field, scoring fellow freshman Gianna Richy and Walker.

The Flames complete their time at the Fresno State Classic tomorrow morning when they take on Idaho State (2-3) in a doubleheader. The first game is scheduled for noon followed by game two's first pitch scheduled for 3 p.m.
