Flames Rewrite Records at WMU Tri-Meet

UIC earns highest team-total since March 14, 2014

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The UIC women's gymnastics team collected its highest team total since March 14, 2014 at Tuesday evening's tri-meet against Western Michigan and Ball State. The Flames earned a 195.175 to take second ahead of host Western Michigan (194.300), while Ball State took first just ahead of UIC with a total of 195.450.

Mikailla Northern matched her personal-best all-around score with a 39.325 to take home her fourth-straight all-around title in addition to her fourth-straight total of 39.000 or better.

"We had a fantastic night tonight," co-head coach Peter Jansson said. "We peaked at the right time and I could not be more proud of the team for their performance."

UIC came out swinging in the first rotation on bars, recording a season-high 48.975 to take an early lead.  Northern led the way with her second-highest bars score of the season, a 9.850 to take first. Jenna Squillo matched her personal-best on bars with a 9.800 alongside Katie Snyder to tie for third. Nicole Szabo also tied her second-highest score of the season on the event, a 9.775 to tie for sixth.

The success continued onto beam, where the Flames recorded their second-best team total of the season, 48.625. Toni Alicke and Northern finished at the top for UIC, tying their respective career-high 9.775 on the event to tie for fifth. Squillo tied for eighth with a 9.750, her second-best of the season, and Daniela Maciel earned a 9.700 to make the top ten.

In the third rotation, the Flames gathered a 48.775 on floor, led by Northern's season-high 9.850 finish as the event's runner-up. Abby Hasanov followed closely in third with a 9.825, while Maciel landed in a three-way-tie for seventh with a 9.775.

UIC pulled together a season-best team score on vault in the final rotation to secure their second-place finish (48.800). Northern tied her personal-best on the apparatus with a 9.850 for another second-place performance. Squillo finished in a tie for fifth with a season-high 9.775, followed by Snyder (9.750) and Allison Broad (9.725).

The Flames will battle Oregon State on Saturday at 4 p.m. CT in their final road meet before hosting the MIC Championships on March 18.
