IOWA CITY, Iowa – The UIC women's gymnastics team recorded season-high team scores on floor and vault Saturday afternoon, in route to a 192.625 team total at the University of Iowa Tri-meet. No. 22 Iowa took home the top spot (196.475) followed by No. 21 Illinois in second (196.050).
UIC began the afternoon with a season-high 48.500 team score on floor, led by
Mikailla Northern's season-best 9.825 performance.
Abby Hasanov and
Toni Alicke also had season-best scores on the event, scoring a 9.775 and a 9.725, respectively.
The Flames carried their momentum into the second rotation with a season-best 48.700 on vault. Northern paced UIC again with a career-high 9.850 to tie for second.
Allison Broad brought in a career-best 9.825 to tie for fifth, and
Jenna Squillo notched a 9.750 to round out UIC's top-three finishers.
Bars specialist
Riley Cholod was the Flames' top competitor on bars with a 9.750 to take 11th.
Nicole Szabo earned a 9.725 on the apparatus, while Squillo and
Katie Snyder each recorded a 9.700.
UIC faltered on beam, where Squillo was the top finisher with a 9.725. Hasanov grabbed a season-high 9.675 in the event, followed Alicke and
Daniela Maciel's 9.200 each.
"I was proud of all of the team and individual highs early on," co-head coach
Peter Jansson said. "And after surviving some early lineup mistakes in the first three events, we came back strong and were set up for a season-high total. However we had a rough outing on beam and that upset our chances of having a great road score."
The Flames will be back home in the UIC Pavilion next Sunday for a dual meet against Rutgers.
