CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – The UIC women's gymnastics team wrapped up competition at the Illinois Quad meet on Saturday at the University of Illinois's Huff Hall. The Flames earned a 190.850 team score, while host Illinois took the crown with a 195.900 followed by Eastern Michigan (194.725) and Rutgers (191.125).
Mikailla Northern took third out of five all-around competitors, totaling a 38.850 behind Illinois' Lizzy DeLuc (39.425) and Karen Howell (38.900), while outlasting Rutgers' Libby Groden (38.725) and Chloe DeVries (37.025).
"We almost had our first Big Ten win of the year, as we just missed out against Rutgers," co-head coach
Peter Jansson said. "However, Mickey did beat both Rutgers all-arounders, so that is two weeks in-a-row that she beat out Big Ten opponents, and that's a great accomplishment."
The Flames took to the floor in the first rotation, scoring a 48.125. Northern led the Flames, taking fourth with a 9.775.
Amelia Rafferty made her season debut on the event, scoring a 9.625.

UIC moved on to vault, led by Northern with a 9.700 to tie for eighth. Woodruff recorded a 9.625 on the apparatus, while Alicke brought in a 9.450.
The Flames had their top team score of the night on bars, scoring a 48.200.

UIC closed out the afternoon on beam, led once again by Northern with a 9.700. Maciel brought in a 9.550, while
Abby Hasanov and Squillo each recorded a 9.425 on the apparatus.
"We had a little bit of a soft performance here and there," Jansson said. "We're hoping to clean up a few things before heading to Utah next week."
The Flames will continue their road series next weekend at Utah for a quad meet alongside Denver and Boise State.
