Former UIC men's basketball standout Kelsey Barlow was selected in the fifth round of the 2014 NBA D-League Draft on Saturday (Nov. 1) by the Grand Rapids Drive as the 77th overall choice. The Drive are in their first year as an affiliate team of the Detroit Pistons.
Barlow competed for one season at UIC during the 2013-14 campaign and led the Flames in scoring, assists and steals. He was the lone player in the Horizon League to average at least 14 points, five rebounds and three assists per game. Barlow etched his name in UIC history when he recorded back-to-back 30-point games against Wagner (Nov. 27) and SMU (Dec. 4). He scored in double figures on 23 occasions and netted 20 or more points seven times.
The Indianapolis native transferred to UIC after playing three seasons at Purdue where he earned Big Ten All-Freshmen honors in his first year. He became a fixture in the Boilermaker lineup during his junior season, making 22 starts and averaging 8.3 points and 3.7 rebounds per game.
Barlow becomes the second former UIC player who is active in the NBA D-League, joining guard Gary Talton (2011-13) of the Rio Grande Valley Vipers.
