Alice Tym is in her fourth year as Associate Athletics Director and Director of Advancement for the UIC Athletics Department.
Tym manages the advancement program for the UIC Flames Athletics Department. Her responsibilities include major gift development, corporate and foundation giving, annual giving, special development events, and alumni and donor relations. She helped establish the first Athletics Development Leadership Board. Tym also serves as the liaison to Athletic Communications and UIC's Office of Public Affairs to publicize and recognize athletic development successes and donor stories.
Prior to joining the UIC staff, Tym spent three years as Senior Associate Athletics Director and Senior Woman Administrator at Colgate University where she oversaw corporate sponsorship, marketing and promotions, and personnel management for athletics. She also served as the administrative liaison for the faculty liaison program for varsity teams, Daktronics Sports Marketing, ECAC Hockey and the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. In addition, her duties included the administration and supervision of men's soccer, women's ice hockey, women's lacrosse, men's golf, and men's and women's tennis.
While at Colgate, Tym was appointed to serve as a member of the NCAA Division I Women's Soccer Committee. At the league level, she served on the Patriot League committees for Athletic Administration, Sport Management and women's soccer. She also served on the ECAC Awards & Finance Committee, Reid Conceptual Plan Committee, and Committee on Athletics. Tym was a member of the Steering Committee during the NCAA recertification process.
Tym came to Colgate from San Diego State University, where she was the Assistant Director of Marketing and Corporate Sales for the Aztecs.
At San Diego State, she oversaw marketing and event management initiatives, group sales and corporate sales. Under her guidance, SDSU increased season ticket sales for football 27 percent, with an average attendance increase of 59 percent, which was the third largest increase among NCAA Division I schools.
Before joining the Aztecs, Tym worked at Brown University assisting with sports marketing, advertising and event management for their athletics department.
Tym first entered the corporate world as an account executive with Euro RSCG McConnaughy Tatham in Chicago, Ill. After three years, Leo Burnett U.S.A. hired her as an account supervisor handling the Allstate Corporation, Nintendo of America and Keebler Company accounts.
The Tym family is no stranger to athletics. Both Tym's mother and father were professional tennis players. Tym's mother, also named Alice Tym, was ranked 13th in the world in 1969 and played in all of the major world championships including Wimbledon and the US Open. Tym's brother, Dan Tym, was a varsity tennis player at Vanderbilt.
A 1996 graduate of Yale University, Tym was a varsity athlete in soccer and squash. She now participates in triathlons and road races around the country.
