    Athletic Training Intern


    Julie Thoes currently serves as an athletic training intern in the UIC Athletic Department; Thoes primarily works with the volleyball program.

    In the summer of 2009, Thoes began assisting as an athletic trainer for football, men's and women's soccer, and volleyball at North Park. In the same year, she was also a medical volunteer with the Chicago Marathon and Shamrock Shuffle.

    In 2010, Thoes became an RN Assistant at Covenant Harbor Bible Camp (CHBC) in Lake Geneva, WI; a job she performed for two consecutive summers. There she provided care for injuries and illnesses to campers and staff, she delivered daily prescription medications to campers, and she instilled a new documentations system of medications and injuries.

    Before her second summer with CHBC, Thoes began studying as an Athletic Training Student with AthletiCo Physical Therapy Clinic in Chicago. Here she learned hands-on therapeutic techniques, joint mobilization, and message. She also facilitated rehabilitation exercise programs here.

    She also worked as an athletic trainer for Loyola working with men's volleyball, track and field, men's basketball and women's basketball. Here she assumed responsibility for issuing treatments and rehabilitating the players to ensure their prompt return. She also was in charge of instructing athletes in injury prevention measures, and she developed a professional and individualized rapport with many of the athletes.

    Following her second summer with CHBC, Thoes became a temporary athletic trainer at Maine East High School in Park Ridge, Ill., where she focused on men's football. In addition to solidifying even further her previously stated abilities, she also gained knowledge in sports management and budgeting.

    Thoes received her B.S. in athletic training from North Park. She is also a member of the Nation Athletic Training Association (NATA) and of the Athletic Training Student Association.
