Shannon Norkus promoted to Director of Compliance; Ptak elevated to Assistant AD

Shannon Norkus was named the Director of Compliance in July of 2012. In that position, she is responsible for overseeing that the athletic department complies with NCAA sanctioned rules.

A member of the UIC Athletic Department since 2006, prior to serving as the director in the compliance office, she has served as the compliance assistant for two years (2008-09 and 2011-12), where she aided the compliance director with daily responsibilities and issues.

Norkus was the Coordinator of Academic Services from August 2007 until her promotion to the Director of Compliance. As an academic advisor, she oversaw the academic services and eligibility for student-athletes, including coordinating tutoring services, assisting with class registration and a variety of other responsibilities that monitor student-athletes' progress toward graduation.

From August of 2006 until August of 2007, Norkus served in a variety of capacities on the campus of UIC. She was a part-time academic advisor, office of Admissions and Records graduate intern and a graduate intern within the athletic department.

Prior to her time in the UIC Athletic Department, Norkus was an active member in the gymnastics community, where she coached the sport in various capacities. She also was a member of the Missouri gymnastics team as a student-athlete.

Norkus earned her Bachelor of Art's degrees in psychology and sociology from Missouri in 2003, before receiving a Master's degree in higher education and student affairs from Loyola (Ill.) in 2007.
