Carolina Merchen joins the UIC Athletic Department as an Athletic Training Intern. While with the Flames, she will have primary responsibility with the softball team, while assisting with various needs in the athletic training room.
From August 2008 until May of 2012, Merchen was an athletic training student at Delaware. While with the Blue Hens, she was required as an athletic training major to gain 200 hours of experience each semester. Merchen worked with a variety of sports, including football, men's lacrosse, softball, women's basketball and a variety of other sports.
Merchen was expected to be First Aid, AED and CPR certified, while also being able to identify injuries and solve any issues the student-athlete had with his or her personal health.
From June 2011 until August 2012, Merchen was a Varsity Brand Corporation First Aider. In that capacity, she provided on-site care for participants and enforced safety policies and procedures.
Merchen earned her Bachelor of Science degree in athletic training from Delaware's College of Health Sciences in May of 2012.
