• Hall Of Fame Members (I) PURPOSE The purpose of the University of Illinois at Chicago Athletic hall of fame is to honor navy Pier, UICC and UIC athletes, teams, coaches and administrators for their outstanding performances and their significant contributions to the athletic program. These individuals will maintain, strengthen and promote the traditions, ideas and spirit of athletics at The University of Illinois at Chicago. (II) ELIGIBILITY The criteria for eligibility to be nominated for induction into the UIC Athletic Hall of Fame is as follows: A. Individual Student-Athletes: Undergraduate Accomplishments Individuals shall be eligible for nomination if they have meet all of the following criteria. 1) Academic Standing 2) Eligibility Waiting Period b.) If a student-athlete has left the University prior to completion of their eligibility, the five year waiting period will have begun at the end of the fourth academic year following his/her initial enrollment at the University of Illinois at Chicago, UICC, Navy Pier, or any other University or Junior College. 3) Accomplishments a.) Been named "All-American", or b.) Won an NCAA National Championship, or c.) Named Athlete of the Year, or d.) Received Conference Honors, or e.) Led the nation in a recognized statistical category, or f.) As a student-athlete, distinguished him/herself and the University through major victories, statistical achievements, records, or other substantial accomplishments not mentioned in items a-e above. B. Individual Student-Athletes: Post Eligibility Accomplishments Former student-athletes meeting eligibility criteria A.1 and A. 2 but not A. # shall be considered eligible if, following completion of eligibility, they have distinguished themselves and the University in a significant way athletically. C. Individual Coaches, Administrators and UIC Alumni 1. Eligibility Criteria 2. Eligibility Waiting Period b.) There is no set waiting period prescribed for University Administrator and/or UIC Alumni. D. Athletic Teams 1. Accomplishments 2. Eligibility Waiting Period (III) ELECTION A. Selection Committee The UIC Athletic Hall of Fame will be administrated jointly by the UIC Department of Intercollegiate Athletics and the UIC Athletic Alumni Association. The Athletic Hall of Fame Selection Committee shall conduct annual selection of the new inductees into the UIC Athletic Hall of Fame. This committee will be comprised of two separate sub-committees; 1) Navy Pier Era, and 2) UICC & UIC Campus Era. 1. Chair 2. Sub-Committee a.) One UIC Athletic Alumni Association Executive Officer b.) Four or five members of the UIC Athletic Hall of Fame from that sub-committee's era. B. Selection Meeting(s) The two selection sub-committees shall meet together as a group at a time and place to be determined during the summer months prior to the UIC Athletic Hall of Fame event. The selection committee chair will determine the dates of this meeting and others. After this initial selection committee meeting, additional separate sub-committee meetings will be conducted as needed to complete the selection process. When each sub-committee has determined its selection for the current year's athletic hall of fame class, a list will be submitted to the UIC Director of Athletics for final approval. C. Nomination 1. All nominations received by the selection committee shall be considered for induction into the UIC Athletic Hall of Fame at the initial scheduled selection committee meeting. D. Selection 1.) All members of the selection committee, including the chair are eligible to vote during the selection committee meeting(s). 2.) Final selection shall be by written secret ballot. 3.) Committee members may vote "in absentia", provided his/her ballot is delivered in writing, in a sealed envelope to the committee chair prior to the final selection meeting. 4.) Nominees receiving a majority vote (more than 50%) shall be considered selected. 5.) Upon a majority vote (more than 50%) of the committee members present, a second ballot may be held involving the nominees who failed to receive a majority on the first ballot. In the event of a second ballot, absentee ballots shall be counted as submitted. (IV) INDUCTION Newly selected UIC Athletic Hall of Fame members shall be officially notified by the Director of Athletics and formally inducted at the annual UIC Athletic Hall of Fame Induction and Reunion Banquet during that academic year.
