Women's Tennis wins Academic Team of the Year for the seventh time in 12 years

Anthony Binion joined UIC in 2013 as the Assistant Director of Academic Services after serving as the Academic Counselor for varsity teams at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. In his current role, Binion serves as the primary athletics academic advisor for men's and women's basketball.

Binion joined the University of Illinois Division of Intercollegiate Athletics staff in 2012, serving as the Academic Counselor for UIUC's women's basketball, women's track and field, women's cross country, and men's gymnastics teams. He also oversaw the Identify Illinois Program, which is the Division of Intercollegiate Athletics' diversity initiative aimed at exposing students of color to the many campus opportunities to support Illinois athletics.

Prior to joining the Illini staff, Binion was the Director of Student-Athlete Academic Success at Drake University, where he oversaw the academic progress of all Bulldog athletic teams, coordinated the athletics Tutor Program, and served as the advisor for the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.

Binion is a member of N4A, The National Association of Athletics Academic Advisors. Prior to his work in Athletic Academic Services, Binion worked as an Athletic Marketing representative at Northwestern University from 2008-2011. In this role, he worked with the marketing staff during football and men's and women's basketball games. Binion also assisted with the coordination of the Get to Know Her and Kid's Club programs and managed marketing activities on the Wildcat party deck.

A Chicago native, Binion earned his Bachelor's Degree in Psychology from Truman State in 2003 while participating as a student-athlete on the football team. He received his Master's Degree in Counseling from Illinois School of Professional Psychology in 2005 and a Master's Degree in Sports Administration from Northwestern in 2011.
