    OH, WHAT A DAY!!!

    Posted Sunday, December 19 at 3:55 p.m.

By now, every Flames basketball fan has undoubtedly re-visited Saturday's 57-54 victory over No. 12/14 Illinois, one of the greatest wins in the history of the program.  "Flame Throwers" has your exclusive coverage, courtesy of the numerous media outlets in attendance at the United Center.  Enjoy.

Courtesy of the Chicago Tribune, Chris Hine recaps how the Flames' 1-3-1 zone defense neutralized and "froze" the Fighting Illini.  Along with the gamer, the Trib also provided a PHOTO GALLERY (the first 18 photos are from Saturday's contest).

Herb Gould of the Chicago Sun Times writes that the "UC belongs to UIC" in his game story: With 6-9, 282-pound center Darrin Williams coming up big, it was UIC that ruled the West Side roost Saturday. Taking the swagger away from the 12th-ranked Illini, the Flames won 57-54 before a stunned orange-and-blue crowd of 13,117.

Scott Powers from ESPNChicago.com puts the importance of UIC's win in perspective, and identifies how the victory could reap further rewards down the road.

Courtesy of the Associated Press, read how the Flames deserved to celebrate after the horn sounded.  ESPN's video highlights of the game also included.

Chris Hine also provided a piece for Chicago Breaking Sports, revealing how the Flames left the United Center feeling rejuvanated.

Lindsey Willhite from the Daily Herald was in attendance, and further examined the historical significance of the win: The Flames ignited upon reaching their locker room after pulling off a 57-54 shocker over Illinois before 13,117 primarily orange-clad fans. They equaled their win over No. 12 Butler on Jan. 10, 2007, at the UIC Pavilion, though this meant more because of the name on the other team's orange jerseys.

Andy Katz from ESPN.com took away 30 Things for Saturday's action of college basketball, and UIC's upset of the Illini was one of them.

Said Katz: Credit Illinois-Chicago for a masterful plan in beating No. 14 Illinois. First-year coach Howard Moore should be applauded for pulling off what will go down as one of the most important wins in school history. Beating Illinois at the United Center will do wonders for UIC's reputation in the city.

In the Decatur Herald and Review, Mark Tupper writes that Maro's Robo Kreps won't have to wait until his playing career is finished to enjoy a big-time win.

    Now for some video coverage...

The Big Ten Network, which televised the game, provided game highlights on its website.

Comcast SportsNet, which is scheduled to televised six more of UIC's games this season, posted a press conference video complete with commentary from Howard Moore, Robo Kreps, Paul Carter and Darrin Williams.
