Tonight is the last opportunity for the general public to check out the Flames' progress before the first exhibition game next Wednesday at the UIC Pavilion. The doors will open at 6 p.m. for the Red-Blue scrimmage. Don't forget, we'll also have a dunk contest and three-point shooting competition. We'll also give you a quick teaser with three players that will be appearing on each team ... you'll have to come out to the game to find out the rest of the make-up of the squads!

"Flame Throwers" garnered a nice shout-out on John Templon's Chicago College Basketball Blog on Tuesday. The response has been good, and we hope that Flames fans are making this section of the website a daily stop. To answer Templon's question about coach Howard Moore's podcasts, the answer is "Yes." We'll tape a weekly podcast with coach Moore on Tuesdays, and have it posted both online (and here on the blog) sometime on Wednesdays during the season. Stay tuned and thanks for visiting!
FLAMES TO HOLD OPEN SCRIMMAGE FRIDAY

UIC men's basketball fans will have a chance to see the 2010-11 Flames in action on Friday night, when the team holds its first scrimmage of the season at the UIC Pavilion
beginning at 7 p.m. The event, which is free-of-charge and open to the public, will also include a three-point shooting and dunk contest, and the Flames players and coaches will be signing autographs for the fans in attendance.

Numerous media outlets in the Chicagoland region are expected to be in attendance at the Flames Athletic Center this afternoon, as we have set aside some time before practice for the media to preview the 2010-11 UIC basketball team. Keep your eyes peeled (as will we) for storylines, and we'll be happy to include as many as possible on the blog. ROAD GAME AT LOYOLA (1/22/11) WILL TIP-OFF AT 3 P.M.

UIC's road game at crosstown rival Loyola (Jan. 22) will tip-off at 3 p.m. CST, it was announced Friday. Game times for all 30 regular season contests have now been finalized.
PITT, BUTLER, ILLINOIS RANKED IN INITIAL TOP-25 POLL

Top-25 poll is out, and three of UIC's opponents appeared in the rankings
. Pittsburgh, who was picked to win the BIG EAST Conference earlier this week, starts the season at No. 4. Illinois, who the Flames will face at the United Center on Dec. 18, are ranked No. 16, while 2010 national runner-up Butler starts the season ranked 18th.
PITTSBURGH GAME TIME SET AT 6 P.M.
The Flames' season opener at Pittsburgh (Nov. 10) in the 2K Sports Classic benefitting Coaches versus Cancer officially has been assigned a game time. UIC and the Panthers will tip off at 6 p.m. from the Petersen Events Center.
DAYTON DAILY NEWS BREAKS DOWN HORIZON LEAGUE
The Dayton Daily News has a nice breakdown of the Horizon League posted on its website. The report includes breakdowns based on the top scorers (of which Robo Kreps is the fifth-leading returner), team scoring, top rebounders/team rebounding, the "biggest players" in the league and the Horizon League "By the Numbers."

KREPS COLLECTS PRESEASON ALL-HORIZON HONORS
Senior guard Robo Kreps, the Horizon League's fifth-leading returning scorer, was named to the preseason All-Second Team in a poll conducted by the league's media, head coaches and sports information directors, it was announced Tuesday afternoon.

BASKETBALL FLAMES CLEAN UP ON CAMPUS
On October 8, the UIC men's basketball team took time out to clean up trash around the campus quad, and engage the student community about Flames hoops. Each member of the coaching staff, and all 17 players took part in the festivities. Some lucky fans walked away with free t-shirts, and were able to meet both first-year head coach Howard Moore and the players.
