Oct. 24, 2012
CHICAGO - Senior men's soccer player Ivan Stanisavljevic has been named the UICFlames.com Student-Athlete of the Week for the period of Oct. 15-21. The midfielder notched his seventh goal of the season in a 2-0 win over Horizon League-foe Green Bay this past Saturday, catapulting UIC to the top of the conference standings with a record of 3-1-1. The victory marked the first win at Green Bay since the 2005 season.
Stanisavljevic recorded the game's second score in the 71st minute from 24 yards out after being set-up by senior Isai Lemus, scoring in consecutive matches. Freshman Jorge Alvarez netted the game-winner in the first half, posting his first-career tally.
The Belgrade, Serbia, native is tied for first in the Horizon League in assists (5), ranks second in points (19) and sits tied for second in goals (7).
The Flames will ride a three-game winning streak into Saturday night's road game at Cleveland State, holding a record of 6-1-1 in their last eight contests. In those eight matches, the Flames have outscored their opponents by a margin of 13-5. In the latest NCSAA regional rankings, UIC is listed No. 10 among all teams in the Great Lakes region.
Stanisavljevic takes home his second award of the season after claiming the inaugural honor on Aug. 29, giving the soccer team four laurels on the year. Teammate Slobodan Aleksov was given the accolade last week (Oct. 17) with soccer picking up three of the last four awards.
