CHICAGO - The UIC student-athlete body continued to excel both on and off the field as 39 Flames were named to the 2009 Horizon League Spring Academic Honor Roll, the league office announced on Monday.
Swimming and diving featured five members from both the men's and women's squads, while cross country saw seven athletes recognized for their academic and athletic feats over the past semester.
The baseball team had four student-athletes present on the honor roll, followed by volleyball, women's basketball and track & field, each of which had three members named.
Men's basketball, soccer, softball and women's tennis had two honorees, while men's tennis has one representative on the honor roll.
For a student-athlete to be named to a Horizon League Academic Honor Roll, they must participate during the most recent (or current) season of a league-sponsored sport, have completed three semesters as a full-time student and maintain a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.20 on a 4.0 scale as of June 20, 2009.
