Plug Into the Savings with the UIC Flames Friends and Family Program

April 18, 2013

CHICAGO- The UIC Athletic Department is pleased to announce a new partnership with First Energy Solutions, one of the nation's largest electric generation suppliers. As part of the brand new "UIC Flames Friends and Family Program," UIC alumni, students, employees and fans can receive exclusive savings on their electric bills by switching to FirstEnergy Solutions.

Residential customers who are affiliated with UIC (and their friends and family) and are customers of ComEd or Ameren are eligible to enroll in the Friends and Family Program. Current ComEd customers are being charged up to 8.319 cents per kilowatt-hour (k Wh). By enrolling in the Friends and Family Program, the price with FirstEnergy Solutions would be just 4.99 cents per k Wh through March 2014. Residents interested in a longer-term offer can sign up to receive 5.22 centers per k Wh through March 2015.

Ameren customers are currently being charged up to 5.467 cents per k Wh. With the Friends and Family program, those UIC affiliated customers, and their friends and family, would be charged just 4.70 cents per kWh through March 2015.

"UIC Athletics is very excited to partner with a highly respected company like FirstEnergy Solutions," said Assistant Director of Corporate Sales Patrick Cogan. "This innovative partnership will directly benefit the UIC community and allow them save money on their monthly electric bill. We strive to bring partnerships like this to UIC and are continuously looking for new ways to engage with the business community."

Enrollment in the Friends and Family Program is currently open, and will run for the next 90 days. To officially enroll or to learn more about the program, visit, or call 1-888-254-6526. At the end of the meter read date (either March 2014 or March 2015), customers who enroll in the program will receive a competitive renewal price when their contract ends.

There are no additional fees to sign up. After enrolling in the program, customers will receive a letter from the local electric utility confirming that they selected FirstEnergy Solutions as a generation supplier. Typically, savings will begin approximately 45 days after enrolling in the program.

Program participants will continue to receive one utility bill, which will include the charge for electric generation from FirstEnergy Solutions. Customers will still be able to pay their bill the same way, even if they are enrolled in automatic billing from their checking account.
